Ugandan Honeymoon Safari

Apes and human beings differ slightly in their DNA makeup and are therefore our close relatives in the animal kingdom. Chimpanzees and bonobo monkeys are the closest although gorillas resemble us more in some respects.

Visit Kibale National Park which contains one of the loveliest and most varied tracts of tropical forest in Uganda. Forest cover, interspersed with patches of grassland and swamp, dominates the northern and central parts of the park on an elevated plateau. The park is home to a total of 70 mammal species, most famously 13 species of primates including the chimpanzee.

From Kibale, drive to Queen Elizabeth, Uganda’s premier National Park. The park’s diverse ecosystems, which include sprawling savannah, shady, humid forests, sparkling lakes and fertile wetlands, make it the ideal habitat for classic big game, ten primate species including chimpanzees and over 600 species of birds.

Finally, pay a visit to the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the south west of Uganda where slightly over half of the remaining 800 gorillas in the world make their home. Bwindi is also home to a number of other primate species, including the black-and-white colobus (Colobus guereza) monkey, L’Hoest’s guenon (Cercopithecus l’hoesti), red-tailed guenon (C. ascanius schmidti), blue guenon (C. mitis mitis), vervet (C. aethiops), baboon (Papio anubis) plus various nocturnal prosimians.

With roughly 800 mountain gorillas left in the world, tracking and seeing them in the wild is something only a few people will ever have the chance to experience! About 450 mountain gorillas inhabit an extinct volcanic region called the Virunga Range along the borders of Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in East Africa. The other 350 or so mountain gorillas inhabit a nearby area of Bwindi in Uganda, a thick rainforest.
