Together with 13 other lakes in the area, Lake Mburo forms part of a 50km-long wetland system linked by a swamp. Five of these lakes lie within the park’s borders. Once covered by open savanna, Lake Mburo National Park now contains much woodland as there are no elephants to tame the vegetation. In the western part of the park, the savanna is interspersed with rocky ridges and forested gorges while patches of papyrus swamp and narrow bands of lush riparian woodland line many lakes.

Lake Mburo National Park supports globally threatened species of birds, including two of the endangered cichlid fish species which have gone extinct in the main lakes and it is the only area in Uganda in which the Impala is found. The park also provides refuge to 22 species of Palaearctic and Afro-tropical migrant birds during adverse conditions, within the wooded Savanna with Acacia/Commiphora thicket and grasslands.

After lunch, you’ll explore the wildlife-rich eastern banks of Lake Mburo during a tranquil two-hour boat voyage. Keep an eye out for crocodiles, buffaloes and hippos as well as colorful Kingfishers, magnificent Fish Eagles, Hammerkops and their enormous nests and even the prehistoric-looking Shoebill.

The capital city of Uganda and seat of government, Kampala is a melting pot of Ugandan history and culture. Often referred to as the 'City of Seven Hills', it currently sprawls over twenty hills and covers an area of 72 square miles. The name Kampala derives from the name given to one of the antelope family, the Impala and traditional oral history tells the story of how the hills were originally the royal hunting grounds of the Kabaka (king) of Buganda kingdom, whose palace is still located in Mengo, one of the many hills that make up the city. The city is also home to the tombs of the past Buganda kings on Kasubi hill, catholic and protestant cathedrals on Rubaga and Namirembe hills, Kibuli and Gaddafi mosques, the Baha'i temple and the Parliament of Uganda.

With a population of over three million, Kampala boasts a busy and colourful life. Visit the local markets for a taste of the hustle and bustle that is the everyday life of the average Ugandan trader and enjoy a variety of traditional cuisine from across the country in the many restaurants. An exciting night life awaits the nocturnal reveller with several bands and troupes offering live performances and many nightclubs to choose from. A tour of Kampala is a good starting or ending point for any Uganda safari.

To conclude the tour, you’ll take a scenic drive to Entebbe where you’ll check into your hotel and relax in the serenity and tranquillity that is Entebbe before your flight the following morning.
